I saw that you visited Secret Confessions of a Clean Freak, but you didn't grab your copy yet.
Maybe you got distracted. I know I got a little long winded..
But maybe you thought that your home is just too bad – that this couldn't possibly work for you
Let me tell you about Bob's house…Bob lived in the house with his 2 should be adult sons. Bob's wife passed away about 8 years before, and honestly the house wasn't that clean even when she was alive – but now?
I truly doubt that your house is this bad –
When you walked in the door, the first thing you noticed was stuff thrown on every available surface – clothes, shoes, hockey equipment, lunch boxes – just walk in the door and drop it somewhere…
The walls were filthy. There were cobwebs and dust hanging all over. The pictures hadn't been wiped in years. Oh, and everyone smoked.
In the kitchen, you couldn't see anything beyond the dirty caked dishes that were everywhere. Once that was cleared, nothing had been wiped up in a very long time. Everything – the walls, the counters, the cabinets inside and out, the drawers, the fridge…everything was caked with gunk.
What once was the dining room was totally trashed –
The walls were black. The curtain rods were pulled out of the wall from people hanging on them. The carpet truly looked like someone had been murdered in that room. Then it just became another dumping ground.
The bathroom – OMG!
The walls were primed and not painted for years. They were coated in filth and mold.
The sink was coated with blood from a fight a couple nights before with hair and toothpaste deposited on top of it.
The tub and the toilet were black.
Shall I go one? Floors, windows, celing fans… You get the picture, right?
I wanted to cry. What had I gotten myself into?
As much as I would have liked to jump in and clean everything, it wasn't possible. I worked and have the blog, and we had to eat and sleep. Plus the filth was so bad, it was going to take the 'wear away principle'. It was not going to come clean in one fell swoop.
Using my system, I started plugging away at it. Within a couple of weeks I got the place at least sort of livable. It truly took a couple of months to get it really clean, walls ceilings, cabinets…
Now, the house stays pretty clean without a lot of effort.
In time, the boys started putting their stuff in their rooms at least. The dishes make it to the sink. No one cleans anything, but at least its not as hard as it was. We're still working on bathroom etiquette.
The system helps you keep on top of things while they're still easy, and nothing gets so bad.
The point is – If I can keep this house clean without killing myself, your house will be a piece of cake in comparison.
Who this is not for –
If you truly feel that you cannot out in 15 – 30 minutes a day to keep your house clean, then this is not for you. It does take some consistent effort.
But, if you think, "That really would be nice, maybe I could do it if it's easy enough…" Then I encourage you to give it a try.
You truly will be amazed at how much of a difference this makes in your life…
