I admit it. I'm a little OCD about having a clean house.
You see, I was raised by horrible housekeepers. As a teen, I quickly understood that successful people didn't live like this. I was so disgusted and embarrassed – always afraid that someone would see how we lived.

But no matter how hard I tried, no matter how disciplined I tried to stay – I couldn't keep up. I was so exhausted I cried.
I was killing myself trying to do it.
Then I got laid off. Careful what you wish for, right?
My half sister happens to have a cleaning business. She asked if I wanted to come work with her while I looked for a job. I wasn't thrilled… from corporate exec. to house cleaning? UGH!
Then she tells me that 2 girls can clean 3 houses and be home in time for the school bus.
I was like, WAIT! WHAT? How?
Then she showed me the cleaning plans for each house. I was amazed! Just follow the plans.
But there still was a problem…
2 girls take on average, 2 hours to clean an average home. And that's busting it. That's 4 or more hours by yourself. That's still too long, and not much fun.
I sat down and combed through the plans. There had to be a better way.
I Was Determined to Have a Clean House – And a Life!
Now you have to understand that I was in middle management in Legal and Regulatory- Very analytical and very policy and procedure focused – so I was determined to come up with a solution.
And you know, successful businesses have procedures that hopefully help them run efficiently. Yet when we go home, we do everything all willy-nilly and we're all over the place and not getting anything done.
So I thought OK, these people have their homes cleaned every 2 weeks. That's a lot of build up, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. And those take most of the time. Hmmmm…
I started experimenting with doing certain tasks each night until….
I did it! I finally got a system that works!
I do certain things in the evenings that take about half an hour – Monday thru Thursday. Friday is a touch up vacuum and dust, and your house is ready to enjoy for the weekend.

Dear Carole, I just had to let you know though I have only been using your cleaning scheme for a week, but already my house is twenty times cleaner than it has been in a long time and it looks set to stay that way. I cannot believe that I can now find it possible to keep the house clean while at the same time juggling a part time job, a three year old and a one year old and being pregnant, without having to spend any more time on jobs around the house than I did before. I had never thought of using a squeeze to clean the shower screen. It was really disgusting, we'd not been able to see through it in years, yet within a minute the thing was spotless.
